Kindness Crew Information

The Olive Elementary Kindness Crew consists of 10-15 third – fifth graders who are committed to making a difference. We meet twice per month to come up with a monthly theme and “Kindness challenges” that help us support that theme. Previous themes have included Family, Community, Compliments, and more.

The goal is to create a culture shift in school where students, faculty and teachers understand the importance of being kind. In our first year, we donated more than 900 pairs of shoes to kids in Africa so they could go to school, we donated 217 lbs. of food to the Marin Food Bank, and we successfully partnered with local businesses to implement three buddy benches at school so students would feel included. During the 2017-2018 school year, we have successfully implemented our first-eve holiday gift drive, supporting our own underserved families with an anonymous holiday gift exchange. We were able to provide gifts for upwards of 40 children in need. At present, we are embarking on a long-term “Kindness Rocks” project where we will have each student in the entire school create a “kindness rock” that will find a permanent home on school campus to remind students about the importance of being kind.  This is an incredible leadership opportunity meant to inspire random acts of kindness in both the school and the community in which we all live.
