Dear Olive Families,
As the new principal of Olive Elementary School, I am excited and honored to become a member of our school community. I am humbled to lead both staff and students in creating a shared commitment to education.
I grew up in Sacramento and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Sacramento State University. I moved to San Francisco where I received my Multiple Subject Credential with an emphasis in Science education from San Francisco State University and then relocated to the South Bay where I spent the last 18 years of my educational career. While in the South Bay, I attended Santa Clara University to pursue a Masters degree in Educational Leadership. I have a three and a half year old daughter, Adeline, and we moved to Novato over the summer to be closer to my family.
My most recent administrative experience has been shaped by two years as a Middle School Assistant Principal at Rancho Milpitas Middle School and four years as an Elementary Assistant Principal at Rose Elementary School both with the Milpitas Unified School District in Santa Clara County. Prior to beginning my career in Administration, I spent 12 years teaching 5th grade, 7th Grade English/History and Science, and 8th Grade Science at the Elementary and Middle School levels. During my time in education, I learned the value of creating a safe and inclusive environment where students feel successful in gaining new skills both socially and academically. When given the right environment with positive supports and structures, every child can access curriculum and make individualized progress toward their academic and social goals.
While we face this time of much uncertainty, I am committed to the safety and emotional/social well-being of all students and staff. I am aware of the anxiety and anticipation that comes with new leadership and understand that this feeling is intensified by the renovation and upgrading of the school site and health/safety concerns centered around the new Delta strain of COVID. In the next couple of days, please look out for more detailed communication from me regarding how students will get information on class placement and first day of school information. In the meantime, please join me for a virtual Welcome Back evening on Thursday, August 12th at 7:00 PM where I will have more information on the opening of school. A Zoom link will be communicated to all families early next week.
Thank you families for your patience and understanding as we plan for the opening of school. It is my goal to spend a bulk of my time learning about our school community, including staff, students, and families. It is with a strong commitment that I am joining Olive Elementary School and am honored to be an Olive Shark.

Estimadas familias Olive,
Como nuevo director de la Escuela Primaria Olive, estoy emocionado y honrado de convertirme en miembro de nuestra comunidad escolar. Me siento honrado de liderar tanto al personal como a los estudiantes en la creación de un compromiso compartido con la educación.
Crecí en Sacramento y me gradué con una licenciatura en Estudios Liberales de la Universidad Estatal de Sacramento. Me mudé a San Francisco, donde recibí mi credencial de múltiples materias con énfasis en educación científica de la Universidad Estatal de San Francisco y luego me mudé a South Bay, donde pasé los últimos 18 años de mi carrera educativa. Mientras estaba en South Bay, asistí a la Universidad de Santa Clara para obtener una maestría en Liderazgo Educativo. Tengo una hija de tres años y medio, Adeline, y nos mudamos a Novato durante el verano para estar más cerca de mi familia.
Mi experiencia administrativa más reciente ha sido moldeada por dos años como subdirectora de escuela intermedia en la escuela secundaria Rancho Milpitas y cuatro años como subdirectora de primaria en la escuela primaria Rose, ambas en el distrito escolar unificado de Milpitas en el condado de Santa Clara. Antes de comenzar mi carrera en Administración, pasé 12 años enseñando inglés / historia y ciencias de quinto grado, séptimo grado, y ciencias de octavo grado en los niveles de primaria y secundaria. Durante mi tiempo en la educación, aprendí el valor de crear un ambiente seguro e inclusivo donde los estudiantes se sientan exitosos al adquirir nuevas habilidades tanto social como académicamente. Cuando se les brinda el entorno adecuado con estructuras y apoyos positivos, todos los niños pueden acceder al plan de estudios y hacer un progreso individualizado hacia sus metas académicas y sociales.
Si bien enfrentamos este momento de mucha incertidumbre, estoy comprometido con la seguridad y el bienestar emocional y social de todos los estudiantes y el personal. Soy consciente de la ansiedad y la anticipación que conlleva el nuevo liderazgo y entiendo que este sentimiento se intensifica con la renovación y mejora del plantel escolar y las preocupaciones de salud / seguridad centradas en la nueva cepa Delta de COVID. En los próximos días, busque una comunicación más detallada de mi parte sobre cómo los estudiantes obtendrán información sobre la colocación de clases y la información del primer día de clases. Mientras tanto, únase a mí para una noche virtual de bienvenida el jueves 12 de agosto a las 7:00 PM, donde tendré más información sobre la apertura de la escuela. Se comunicará un enlace de Zoom a todas las familias a principios de la próxima semana.
Gracias familias por su paciencia y comprensión mientras planeamos la apertura de la escuela. Mi objetivo es pasar la mayor parte de mi tiempo aprendiendo sobre nuestra comunidad escolar, incluido el personal, los estudiantes y las familias. Es con un fuerte compromiso que me uniré a la Escuela Primaria Olive y me siento honrado de ser un Tiburón Oliva.
